Who we are 

Equine Wellness and Performance is a full service equine-focused veterinary practice servicing Brevard County and the surrounding Central Florida area. We offer a wide range of services including in-clinic care, ambulatory services, reproductive services, field surgical services, sports medicine, rehabilitation, and 24/7 emergency care. 

Dr. Patrick Biegel

BVMS and Owner

Dr. Biegel is a New Jersey native. He is a graduate of the Veterinary School at the University of Glasgow in Glasgow, Scotland. He interned at Furlong & Associates in NJ and practiced in Ocala, Florida before moving to Brevard County when he joined Newman Equine in July 2012. In his tenure at Newman Equine, he became deeply connected to the horses and people of Brevard County, ultimately leading to his decision to purchase the practice in 2022.  While his interests in equine medicine are diverse, he is highly sought after for lameness  evaluations and treatment and pre-purchase exams. He is an active horseman, riding and competing in both English and Western disciplines as a junior rider and now actively supports his two children in their competitive equine aspirations.


Dr. Brad Newman

DVM

Dr. Newman founded Newman Equine in 1993. While his passion is breeding, Newman Equine became the premier ambulatory care practice on the Space Coast. An Ohio native with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University, Dr. Newman has traveled the world implementing breeding programs, including serving as the Resident Reproductive Veterinarian Cornerstone Stud, Angaston, South Australia from 2011-2018. In 2019, he was the Adjunct Instructor of Equine Medicine, The University of Adelaide, South Australia. Today, he continues to teach at Eastern Florida State College and serve as a veterinary consultant and breeding veterinarian for Equine Wellness and Performance of Central Florida. Dr. Newman has his own horses and continues to compete in cutting competitions. 



Dr. Abigail Lechtenberg

DVM

Dr. Lechtenberg joined Newman Equine in July, 2019, and is a native of Kansas, graduating from the Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a year long internship at Pine Ridge Equine Hospital in Glenpool, OK and and has ridden horses for over 20 years competing in rodeo, barrel racing and cutting. Her interests are reproduction, acupuncture/integrative care, lameness and general ambulatory care. Dr. Lechtenberg enjoys working out and spending time with her young horse.


Dr. Caitlyn Traenkle

DVM

Dr. Traenkle is a native of Massachusetts who discovered a love for horses at a young age, participating in hunter/jumpers. She is an avid world traveler and has explored over 25 countries including completing international studies. Dr. Traenkle began her veterinary training at the University of Sydney later transferring to and receiving her degree from Ross University. She completed her clinical year and LSU and spent time. Dr. Traenkle can’t live without her dog, Augie, and when not playing with horses can be found paddleboarding. 



Dr. Catie Russell

DVM

Dr. Russell, a Texas native, comes to us from Port Charlotte, Florida where she also worked as an Equine Veterinarian. Dr. Russell joined Newman Equine in February 2016. She has over 19 years of riding experience and has competed in both Barrel Racing and 3-Day Eventing. Dr. Russell specializes in integrative care service offerings including acupuncture and holistic health services.  She has her own horse and continues to actively ride and compete.



Michelle Magallon

Office and Clinic Team

Michelle joined the practice in 2023.  A life-long horse lover, Michelle had her own horse as a child. Prior to joining EWP, Michelle was a successful business consultant and executive in global organizations with experience in all areas of business including digital commerce. She brings a passion for business and professionalism to the clinic.



Randi Owen

Office and Clinic Team

Randi joined EWP in 2023 bringing with her years of education and experience with horses. Horses, a childhood passion, became an academic endeavor. Randi earned her Masters of Science in Equine Nutrition and Exercise Physiology from Texas A&M where she served as Graduate Teaching Assistant. Prior to joining to EWP she had extensive equine experience and has served as the assistant manager at show barn with 30+ horses.
